Did you know the Cannon County Food Bank doesn’t receive any state or federal money or grants to feed county residents in need? They rely solely on the donations of individuals, businesses and surrounding churches. Cannon County has a 35% participation rate among those eligible through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. The rest rely on donations and programs like our local Food Bank.
While President Trump’s cuts to Second Harvest Food Bank (affecting local church food distribution) and proposed cuts to SNAP (currently being voted on by Congress) won’t directly affect our Food Bank, it will indirectly drive many participants to rely more heavily on local donations through the Food Bank.
Because of recent state and federal cuts to assistance for those in need, our food bank is seeing an uptick in need and have asked us to be an official year-round food bank drop-off point.
Last Fall, Wellness Emporium – Woodbury customers stepped up in a big way donating hundreds of pounds of food to the Food Bank. We are open seven days a week and are located just one block down the road from the food bank, which is open three days a week for a couple hours a day. Being an official drop off point gives the public a place to drop off donated food items seven days a week.
Whether you support cuts to assistance programs or not, this is an opportunity to meet a need and show what moving this cost and responsibility to local residents, churches, and businesses looks like. We hope you join us in meeting this challenge for the better health & well-being of our community!
HONEYSUCKLE KEFIR: Our first seasonal of the year goes on tap Thursday (May 25)! Our Honeysuckle Kefir brings back childhood memories of growing up in the South and tasting the sweetness of late Spring right from the vine.
We harvest the flowers right here in Cannon County for a wonderful Memorial Day weekend treat. Our Honeysuckle Kefir will be on tap for cup and growler refills.

BASSWOOD HONEY: Scot Smotherman is obsessed with bees. He’s also one of our owners, so we get to share some rare treats like this batch of Basswood Honey from his North Carolina hives.
Basswood (Linden) honey is prized for its unique mint and herbal flavor and gut-healthy therapeutic properties. Basswood’s nectar flow usually lasts only 2-3 weeks, but when conditions are right, these trees produce significant amounts of nectar that bees love. Most Basswood honey comes from northern climates, but the Appalachians provide the best source of this honey in the South.
This batch of Basswood honey comes from our hives located near the NC/TN border at 4000ft elevation. This is the first year of 3 years at this location that we have harvested Basswood honey, so grab it while it lasts, and check out our local honey selection, at Wellness Emporium Woodbury!
HONEYSUCKLE HARVEST: What an unbelievable year for honeysuckle here in Tennessee! We got an early start picking bucket loads at Meg & Brett’s place this morning – almost a week before last year’s peak. The smell and memories of picking as a child are unforgettable.

BLACKBERRY SUMMER: Look at the size of the blackberries coming in to the kitchen at Half Hill Farm. They are so big and juicy that they literally exploded all over the walls from the press!
